Moving to Mexico

My Life in Mexico

Originally from British Columbia, I’ve called Puerto Vallarta home since 2011., West Coast - Best Coast! We chose Puerto Vallarta for many reasons, that suited us, but there are dozens, nay hundreds of other equally perfect locations.

While I’ve explored many of the country’s most popular tourist spots, I’ve always been drawn to the charm of smaller towns—places known for their skilled artisans, rich histories, ancient traditions, and truly authentic cuisine. Puerto Vallarta offers mountains, ocean and the steady hum of an vibrant Mexican city. Yes we have a lot of tourism, but we also have artisans, producers, businesses that function outside or at least adjacent to tourism. There is still a level of authenticity in Puerto Vallarta that is missing in other tourist-centric destinations.

Life as an Expat

In the summer of 2011, I took a big leap and moved with my family to Puerto Vallarta. Like many expats, I’ve navigated the highs and lows of settling into life in Mexico—from registering kids for school and buying a home to handling immigration paperwork, taxes, car insurance, and the ever-entertaining world of banking (ufff!). I share these experiences, lessons, and moments of discovery through my seminar series - Orientation to Puerto Vallarta.

Traveling beyond the Resort

Home to over 130 million people and spanning a landmass larger than Western Europe, Mexico is one of the most diverse countries on Earth—ranked fifth globally for biodiversity. This richness is reflected in its distinct regions, vibrant cultures, UNESCO World Heritage sites, ancient traditions, and, of course, its incredible people. Whether you’re lounging on a sun-soaked beach or wandering through a tiny mountain village, Mexico offers something unforgettable for every kind of traveler.

Promoting Mexico Abroad

Promoting Mexico Abroad

From 2010 to 2016, I was the CEO and Editor of Mexi-Go!, a lifestyle magazine and online platform dedicated to promoting travel, investment, and retirement opportunities in Mexico—primarily to Canadian audiences. In addition to publishing the magazine, we hosted trade shows and developed digital resources to connect people with the beauty, culture, and potential of life in Mexico. While Mexi-Go! is currently on hiatus, past issues are still available to explore [here].

Artisan Finds

Throughout my travels across Mexico, I’ve curated a collection of unique, handmade artisan goods—from silver and beaded jewelry to hand-thrown ceramics, embroidered and woven textiles, traditional clothing, baskets, painted gourds, carved coconuts, and fantastical wooden creatures known as alebrijes.

Artisan Finds

Before making a 180° turn and moving to Mexico, I built a career in commercial, residential, and luxury real estate marketing. I worked with leading global brands including RE/MAX, Cushman & Wakefield, and Sotheby’s International Realty, helping to craft compelling campaigns and strategies for high-profile properties across North America.
