An Expert on Expat Lifestyle, Real Estate and Travel in Mexico
Originally from British Columbia, I’ve called Puerto Vallarta home since 2011., West Coast - Best Coast! We chose Puerto Vallarta for many reasons, that suited us, but there are dozens, nay hundreds of other equally perfect locations.
While I’ve explored many of the country’s most popular tourist spots, I’ve always been drawn to the charm of smaller towns—places known for their skilled artisans, rich histories, ancient traditions, and truly authentic cuisine. Puerto Vallarta offers mountains, ocean and the steady hum of an vibrant Mexican city. Yes we have a lot of tourism, but we also have artisans, producers, businesses that function outside or at least adjacent to tourism. There is still a level of authenticity in Puerto Vallarta that is missing in other tourist-centric destinations.
In the summer of 2011, I took a big leap and moved with my family to Puerto Vallarta. Like many expats, I’ve navigated the highs and lows of settling into life in Mexico—from registering kids for school and buying a home to handling immigration paperwork, taxes, car insurance, and the ever-entertaining world of banking (ufff!). I share these experiences, lessons, and moments of discovery through my seminar series - Orientation to Puerto Vallarta.
Home to over 130 million people and spanning a landmass larger than Western Europe, Mexico is one of the most diverse countries on Earth—ranked fifth globally for biodiversity. This richness is reflected in its distinct regions, vibrant cultures, UNESCO World Heritage sites, ancient traditions, and, of course, its incredible people. Whether you’re lounging on a sun-soaked beach or wandering through a tiny mountain village, Mexico offers something unforgettable for every kind of traveler.
Throughout the year, I host Orientation to Vallarta events, where we discuss the diverse topics related to making a move to Puerto Vallarta. From the history of the city, to the different neighbourhoods, enrolling your kids in school, buy vs. renting, healthcare, holidays, and tips for making a smooth(er) transition to life in Mexico. While Vallarta specific, much of the information is relevant across Mexico.
In support of the International Friendship Club (IFC), these events are free to members and guests and are held most weeks from November through March in the IFC Clubhouse in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Occasional events are held at The Living Room Bookstore & Cafe, particularly during the summer months. If you're interested in attending - visit the events calendar at IFC CALENDAR - or email us here.
I also offer private consultations, in person or through zoom, that includes a complete list of recommended service providers, resource materials and more to help with your relocation. Please email me directly to arrange your consultation.
In 2019, I returned to my real estate roots, working with developers across Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. to market and sell presale properties. The following year, I co-founded Ace Project Marketing Group, where we successfully sold $700,000,000 in real estate between 2020 and 2023. Today, I’m proud to be part of MexHome Real Estate helping clients buy and sell homes throughout the beautiful Banderas Bay region.
In 2017, I was contracted by Moon Travel Guides to research, photograph, and write the Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit & Costalegre editions. The updated guides were published in 2020 and 2023, offering readers an insider’s look at the region’s best beaches, hidden gems, local culture, and practical travel tips.
You can find the guides on Amazon or purchase directly from Moon Travel Guides.
From 2013 to 2019, I served as Director of the Vallarta Tribune—the longest-running and most widely distributed English-language newspaper in Banderas Bay. Published weekly year-round, the paper focused on tourism, expat life, local events, and community news, providing readers with insightful, engaging, and timely editorial content.
From 2010 to 2016, I was the CEO and Editor of Mexi-Go!, a lifestyle magazine and online platform dedicated to promoting travel, investment, and retirement opportunities in Mexico—primarily to Canadian audiences. In addition to publishing the magazine, we hosted trade shows and developed digital resources to connect people with the beauty, culture, and potential of life in Mexico. While Mexi-Go! is currently on hiatus, past issues are still available to explore [here].
Throughout my travels across Mexico, I’ve curated a collection of unique, handmade artisan goods—from silver and beaded jewelry to hand-thrown ceramics, embroidered and woven textiles, traditional clothing, baskets, painted gourds, carved coconuts, and fantastical wooden creatures known as alebrijes.
Before making a 180° turn and moving to Mexico, I built a career in commercial, residential, and luxury real estate marketing. I worked with leading global brands including RE/MAX, Cushman & Wakefield, and Sotheby’s International Realty, helping to craft compelling campaigns and strategies for high-profile properties across North America.
